Online Leave No Trace Trainer Course

Four Tuesdays from 6-9pm CST ~ Starting June 23, 2020

SUMMARY: We are providing this Online Leave No Trace Trainer Course as an alternative to in-person training during the COVID-19 pandemic. This course is open to UW-Milwaukee students, staff/faculty, alumni, and the public. The Leave No Trace Trainer Course is a vital component of the national Leave No Trace program. It is a condensed version of the Master Educator Course and is designed for educators, guides, agency employees, other outdoor professionals and anyone interested in learning more about minimum impact skills and ethics. This course covers the Seven Principles of Leave No Trace as well as techniques for disseminating these low impact skills.

REGISTRATION POLICIES: The cost of the course for UW-Milwaukee students currently paying segregated fees is $35. The cost for all other participants is $45 (less than half of a normal trainer course). The course registration fee is non-refundable. Although the course will likely fill much sooner, participants must register prior to June 16, 2020. A full refund will be provided if the host is forced to cancel the course for any reason. No previous Leave No Trace training or experience is required. Participants must be at least 16 years old in order to participate in the course. Students must have access to a reliable internet connection and computer with webcam enabled. Participants will be asked to broadcast audio and video for the entire course.

COURSE DETAILS: This course is hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, University Recreation, Outdoor Pursuits. Participants will be assigned a Leave No Trace training topic prior to the course beginning and will be expected to develop and deliver a 20-30 minute, interactive lesson or presentation during the course. After June 16th, the instructors will schedule a 60-90 minute orientation call that will occur prior to June 23rd to introduce course material and preparation. This course includes 1-2 hours of independent study per week, in addition to time spent preparing the lesson to be delivered during the course. Participants must be present and engaged in all hours of the Trainer Course in order to be considered successful completion. The Leave No Trace Trainer course is a professional-level training, but does not provide a certification. Participants that successfully complete the course will be "Trained Instructors of Leave No Trace" and that training does not expire.
